Bashful Bug

I received an old canvas from a friend. An abandoned landscape painting that he invited me to paint over. I saw potential in it.

The painting had a very raised impasto ridge running the entire length of the canvas that originally served as a horizon line. I could have smoothed it with paste or gel, but I decided against it.

The ridge served to suggest to me a leaf/ stem motif. I leaned into that, and added a ladybug peeking out. That was a brilliant idea of my son's.

Thoughts and feelings of discovery, security, and comfort filled my mind as i created Bashful Bug.
